Cementing Circularity
The Taiheiyo Cement Co facility in Saitama, Japan, is a former cement plant repurposed into a state-of-the-art BioMass Recovery site.
At the heart of the retrofit a BioDigester processes mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) into Alternative Fuel—used directly in on-site cement production.
Local authorities highlighted the strategic benefits:

Local authorities highlighted the strategic benefits:
- Steady gate fee revenues, replacing the cost of a new incinerator and the burden of long-term ash disposal
- Significant carbon emission reductions compared to traditional incineration
- A compelling model for infrastructure reuse and industrial symbiosis
